General Rules and Information
For the accommodation of patrons wishing to transact business of the courthouse during the noon hour, offices are open continuously from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Board of Supervisors meets the second secular day in January and the Board normally meets in adjourned session on Tuesday of each week.
The County Board of Review is in session from May 1 to May 31 of each year. Any property owner or aggrieved taxpayer who is dissatisfied with the owner's or taxpayer's assessment may file a protest against such assessment with the Board of Review on or after April 16, to and including May 5, of the year of the assessment. Said protest shall be in writing and signed by the one protesting or by the protester's duly authorized agent.
All taxes are due after July first. First installments may be paid any time before October first; if paid later, 1 1/2 percent per month must be added. Second installment may be paid any time before April First; if paid later 1 1/2 percent per month must be added.
Tax sale is the third Monday in June.
Prior to tax sale an advertising fee of $4.00 per lot or portion thereof in incorporated property and $4.00 per forty-acre tract or portion thereof for unincorporated property attaches. If sold $20.00 for each certificate is added.
For redemption under the tax sale, 2 percent penalty is added to sum paid by tax purchaser at tax sale and all subsequent taxes are paid by him under sale; also 2 percent per month interest from date of sale until redeemed together with $20.00 for redemption certificate. Redemptions are made through the County Treasurer's Office.
If the tax sale certificate of purchase is not redeemed within 2 years or 1 year for a public bidder sale, the purchaser may begin proceedings to obtain a tax sale deed to the parcel.
